Clinical Implementation of 3D Printing in the Construction of Patient Specific Bolus for Photon Beam Radiotherapy for Mycosis Fungoides

چکیده
Mycosis fungoides (MF), also known as Alibert-Bazin syndrome or granuloma fungoides, are a common subset of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, with peak incidence in the 55~60 years age range. Radiation therapy is the most effective treatment method of MF, these dramatic responses of low dose X-ray therapy to MF were reported by Sholtz in 1902. Radiation therapy induces cell death predominantly by apoptosis in hematopoietic lineages, and is able to achieve complete response (CR) at a much lower dose compared to solid cancers. Since electrons penetrate much lesser than X-rays, MF is commonly treated with electron-beam therapy. Even though electron beam has many advantages over photon beam, treating irregular surfaces, such as finger or feet, with electron beam cause inadequate tumor coverage and excess dose. Therefore, irregular surface is treated Progress in Medical Physics 28(1), March 2017 https://doi.org/10.14316/pmp.2017.28.1.33 pISSN 2508-4445, eISSN 2508-4453

A Review on the Application of 3D Printing Technology in Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is considered as one of the main causes of cancer death in women. Early diagnosis and treatment, especially by modern technologies play major roles in management of breast cancer. Radiation therapy is known as one of the main treatment options for breast cancer. Nowadays, 3D printing technology is also used to rapidly construct objects with high quality. Many studies have shown th...
متن کاملOn Presentation of Optimal Treatment Plan in Radiotherapy of Parotid Cancer: A Comparison of Nine Techniques in Three Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy
Introduction: Today, radiotherapy combined with surgery in the treatment of parotid tumors widely are used specially for high grade parotid tumors. One of concern and challenge issue of radiotherapy is that the treatment of these tumors with irregular surface due to the presence of external ear and region of different physical electron density (air cavities, dense bone, soft t...
متن کاملUse of a 3D printer to create a bolus for patients undergoing tele-radiotherapy
Background: This study describes the possibility of implementing three-dimensional printing technology to create a precise construction of a planned bolus, based on computed tomography information stored in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format file. Materials and Methods: To create the bolus with a 3D printer, we converted data in the DICOM format to the s...
متن کاملDemographic and Clinical Features of Mycosis Fungoides in Tabriz, Iran
Dear Editor, Mycosis fungoides is the most common type of cutaneous T cell lymphoma with a reported incidence of 0.5 cases per 100,000 people per year.1 The cause of mycosis fungoides is still unknown; however genetic and environmental factors have been implicated as possible pathologic factors.2 The disease might also be associated with human T cell lymphotropic virus type 1,3 which is endemic...
متن کاملDevelopment and implementation of a Monte Carlo frame work for evaluation of patient specific out- of - field organ equivalent dose
Background: The aim of this study was to develop and implement a Monte Carlo framework for evaluation of patient specific out-of-field organ equivalent dose (OED). Materials and Methods: Dose calculations were performed using a Monte Carlo-based model of Oncor linac and tomographic phantoms. Monte Carlo simulations were performed using EGSnrc user codes. Dose measurements were performed using r...
